I think that the teacher and principle should be expected to explain why a certain book is on the social studies reading list. Explaining the book's good points of how the students will learn more about that subject or issue. If the teacher or principle doesn't explain why the book is on the reading list, then the guardians of the students would think that they are teaching something bad to the students secretly. Also, when they do that that one book off from the reading list without the teacher or the principle explaining why they chose it, then the students wouldn't be learning on what they should be learning about to further their life in the future.
Teachers always tell the students why the book is in the reading list, it's always a reason to read it contains things that students should be learning and it would benefit the students. If each adult just look at the name of the book and think that the book isn't worth reading, they wouldn't know what the book is about. If they don't know what it contains then they could be losing the chance where their child can learn more about that subject.
